My kitten hisses after I pet my mom cat. How do I reintroduce them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 1 day old

My female cat and female kitten don't get on. The older cat is separated at the moment as she has recently had kittens, but when I spend time with the older cat, the kitten is hostile towards me and hisses at me when she is usually a sweet girl (maybe due to scent?) The hostility seems to be coming mainly from the kitten, which I find odd as she gets on well with my other cat and dog. What should I do about it? How should I go about reintroducing them after the kittens have been weaned? Thanks

Here are some tips to help reintroduce them; Take your time over a few weeks and start with only a few minutes a day Keep two separate litter boxes Reward positive interactions Cat houses with areas to hide and have privact Try a feliway diffuser in the house now and during the process www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=32865 Here is a link about aggression ; https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-tips-to-handle-an-aggressive-cat/ Please any any further questions you have so we can help!
