Why are my dog's eyes bloodshot if it's not dry eye? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 3 months old | 17 lbs

My dogs eyes are both bloodshot again and I had her tested for dry eye and it was negative. Why would her eyes still be bloodshot. What should I do?

If Chloe has had a full ophthalmic exam and nothing was abnormal, it could potentially be allergies causing redness to her eyes. If she pulls on a leash or harness a lot sometimes this can also cause bloodshot eyes. If she was only tested for dry then you may want to consider asking for a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist to have a full work up done if you're still concerned about her eyes.
