Yorkie vomiting and dark diarrhea for 3 days. When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 7 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My 7yr old Yorkie has been vomiting and has diarrhea going on the 3rd day now. The first day, his vomit & diarrhea was more like a lighter brown color. The second, he didn't vomit at all. I gave him some rice with chicken. His poop was soft but not diarrhea. I thought he was getting better. Then last night/this morning, he vomited and had diarrhea 3 times. The diarrhea is very dark in color this time. He wants to eat but I haven't given him any food yet. What should I do?

If he is not vomiting you can continue the chicken and rice and add a canine probiotic to the food. However I strongly recommend you take him to the vet since it has been going on for so many days and it is getting the worse. The dark color may indicate digested blood. They can perform some test and prescribe medicine to help
