My new puppy passed a worm and won't eat. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 13 days old | 2 lbs

We just got a pup 3 days ago that was obviously malnurished. She has come a long way in 3 days; eating well and playing. However, last night she passed a worm. It was about 5 inches long, and was slightly bloody at one end. Today, I know she is hungry, but she hasn't eaten yet. Otherwise, she is playful and seems ok. What all should I do ?? I haven't begun any shots or deworming yet.. thank you

She is old enough to have her first round of vaccines and a dewormer. The appetite maybe decreased due to the worms but at that age it may also be a viral infection or from the change in diet. Because she is so young it is best to have yiurbvet check her and see what is going on. They can check the stool sample to make sure there are not bacteria in it also and administer vaccines if she is healthy
