My senior dog has eye/nose goop & labored breathing. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed

we have a 10 year old mixed breed female. Last couple of weeks she's had goop in her eyes and nose. figured it was allergies. We had her on a small does of benedryl. Over the last couple of days, though, her breathing has become labored and it's not letting her sleep well. Worried more serious than allergies. Any ideas?

These signs could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). Allergies could be the cause of it but a clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
