My puppy's penis is swollen and stuck out. Should I call the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 26 days old | 20 lbs

I have a puppy English bulldog and his penis is very swollen and has been sticking out since yesterday. Should I call our on bell vet Thanksgiving night?

Yes, if it has been sticking out since yesterday and very swollen than he should be seen by a vet right away. It is an emergency situation as it can cause constriction of blood-flow and necrosis of the tissue which can result in amputation of the penis. Please call your vet or go to an emergency clinic.

    Poor Dempsey! Yes, if his penis has been stuck out since yesterday and looks swollen, this is an emergency - I would call your vet and have him seen. This is a condition called paraphimosis, and there can be serious permanent damage to the penis because circulation is cut off by the swelling. Affected dogs may end up needing surgery if the damage is bad enough. Your vet may be able to reduce the swelling enough to get the penis back in place, but the chances of this are higher the sooner treatment is started.
