My dog ate melatonin. Is it safe? What are the signs of overdose?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My 15lb dog ate 45mg of melatonin, will he be ok?

He has had 4.5 mg/kg which is an overdose compared to routine dosages used. I could not find any data regarding dogs overdosing which were not sky high. My opinion is that he is likely to have a long sleep and a bit of nausea if anything. However if you want to be in the safer side , you can contact the local veterinary poison unit, or contact a local vet to have sickness induced if concerned .
