Should I worry if my cat licks Neosporin from his ear wound?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years old | 12.5 lbs

Winston has an injury to his ear secondary to a cat fight and had to have a small piece of his ear trimmed off today. Our vet recommended applying Neosporin to the area to prevent infection. Since Neosporin is petroleum based and meant only for topical applicatoon, should I worry about him ingesting it while grooming?

If a large amount is ingested it can cause problems. You can place a thin layer on the wound and try to distract him afterwards by feeding him treats or playing with him. A small amount may not even bother him enough for him to try to groom the area thiugh
