My unspayed dog has diarrhea, stomach noises, licking. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 4 lbs

Soon I'll take Bella to our vet for her yearly exams and vaccination. But she's been having some troubles with her tumtum, she has had diarrhoea for two days once and now it's making noises and she also licks her private parts. I'm so worried since she's not fixed. Do you think it is something serious? What should I do? Am I overreacting?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Bella isn't felling well. The stomach noises and diarrhea go together, but she should not be having diarrhea for longer than 24 hours. If she is licking her back end, there could be an infection in her uterus, an anal gland problem, shes just cleaning herself, or she's going into heat. Without seeing her, it is very hard to say. If she is still eating and drinking and not lethargic, I wouldn't consider this an emergency but I would have her seen if the diarrhea continues. If shes not eating normally, not drinking or is lethargic, I would take her in sooner. I hope this helps! Good luck and kisses to Bella!
