My senior dog had his first seizure. What should I do and expect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 13 years and 8 months old

My dog had a seizure (first time ever that I know of) he is 13yo and afterwards he's a little dazed but came right at the end but very needy all night. What should I do now? Should I be worried for more seizures to come?

The best thing you can do is is keep a journal of what he was doing before. How long it lasted, and how long until return to normal. If the seizures continue or get more seizure then diagnostics and medicine will be needed. It is. Not uncommon for some dogs to take 24 hours after a seizure to be normal as it can be exhausting.
