My cat won't eat her food, only treats. Is weight loss serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed

We adopted our cat age 2 from CPL in January. She was overweight/bloated? and also had frequent bouts of diarrhoea. we started feeding a quality high protein diet - canagans wet food and High protein dry food mixed with some Harrington chicken and rice. All seemed to be good and her bowel movements became normal. About three weeks ago she lost interest in food and was hardly eating. She has lost a lot of weight. The only thing she will eat is dreamies or dry go cat. She is drinking.

With the history of being overweight and suddenly having a lack of appetite and weight loss...I am really suspicious of Diabetes. They usually drink and pee excessively with this condition as well. It's worth bringing her in for an evaluation by a vet. They can easily diagnose this condition and advise treatment options. I hope that helps and Pudding gets better soon.
