Why is my recently adopted dog's poop yellow, loose, and crystal-like?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 45 lbs

My dogs poop is a yellow orangish color very loose almost looks like crystally. Is this anything to be majorly concerned about? I adopted him about 4 days ago and gave him rice and cottage cheese for about a day and now he is picking at this new food Ol Roy High performance. Let me know thanks!

I suggest you give him a bland diet of boiled or grilled chicken and cooked white rice for a couple of days. If you don't see improvement. I suggest a visit to the vet for a physical exam and an intestinal parasite exam. You might be dealing with digestive and discretion, food intolerance, allergies, intestinal parasites, and or less likely a more serious problem including a virus or a foreign body. For now though my first estimate would be that the food you gave him did not agree much with his stomach and G.I. tract. Again, a bland diet of grilled or boiled chicken with cooked white rice May be helpful. Good luck with Bruno and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
