Why is my dog pooping red tarry substance after having diarrhea?

Tarry red substance from dogs bottom. She had a day of being sick and runs. Now this. Eating and drinking ok. Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 11 lbs

Poor maddie. Sometimes if a pet has diarrhea it will cause irritation of the colon which will cause a bright red color. However there can also be blood from an anal gland infection. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for an exam and medication to resolve the diarrhea and blood. Also they can check her anal glands. You can try an over the counter probiotic too. Hope she feels better soon
