My dog is too playful for my new kitten. How do I introduce them?

How do i introduce my 18 month old dog to my new 12 week kitten? I tried earlier but my dog is very playful and energetic and will not take his attention away from the kitten no matter what I try. The kitten hisses and growls but I did manage to get her to relax a little and play for a moment but as soon as the dog moves she gets scared. I need this to work as the dog visits regularly. Please help! I'm going to try again this evening as the dog needs to stay over tonight. Any tips?

Not all dogs will play safely with cats, and I would recommend keeping them separated until the kitten is almost full grown and has claws and teeth to better protect itself. Even playing, a rowdy dog can easily hurt or kill a small kitten.
