My cat suddenly has acute vomiting, over 20 times in 36 hours. No appetite, not going to the bathroom. Mostly gagging and bile. Cat seems to behaving normal when not throwing up. What are the possibilities?

I am so sorry to hear about Millie. I would advise you to take her to the emergency vet if she has vomited this many times as she is likely becoming quite dehydrated and needs to be evaluated for possible causes. These could include ingestion of a foreign object causing an obstruction, ingestion of a toxin, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, a stomach ulcer or severe gastroenteritis, a tumor (depending on kitty's age) and more. The vet will probably recommend doing bloodwork and an x-ray to help screen for these diseases and help determine a treatment plan.

I'm sorry that Millie is not feeling well! Vomiting and diarrhea for over 24 hours is definitely a cause for concern. Millie may have an obstruction in her intestinal tract, parasites, or an infection. I recommend having her seen by a vet as soon as possible - she may need x-rays and bloodwork to determine what is going on as well as fluids and anti-nausea medication to stabilize her. It is important that she is seen soon to avoid dehydration and to give her the best prognosis. I hope this helps and that Millie starts feeling better soon!

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
