My 6year old beagle has recently started urinating in the house - on settee and bed; this has happened when I am at home so doesn't seem To be a question of not being able to hold it in?Do you think it is physical or behavioural problem?

There are many things that can cause dogs to start urinating in places where they shouldn't. It could be a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, kidney disease, diabetes and many other things. I would recommend taking Woody to the veterinarian and start with a urinalysis. The veterinarian may also recommend blood work to look at the kidney and liver values as well as glucose, electrolytes and other things to see if the problem is just in the urine or if there is some other kind of disease. If all of the medical reason are ruled out with the testing, then your veterinarian can talk to you about behavioral causes of inappropriate urination.
