Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Gastroenteritis means an inflammation of the stomach and intestinal tract. Typically, the symptoms of this are vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Gastroenteritis tends to be a transient condition that resolves with treatment, such as a bland diet, anti-nausea medications, fluids and anti-diarrheals. If it does not respond to treatment or becomes a recurrent issue, it can be indicative of a different disease process, such as inflammatory bowel disease. If his signs do not improve or worsen, I would reach out to his regular veterinarian to discuss what further testing and options may be needed. Good luck!
