Why is my senior cat bloated with blood in his stool after vet check?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 12 lbs

My 10yr old Male Cat was acting as if he had some abdominal discomfort w bloating. I brought him to the vet where they ran an extensive blood work up and advised he had to fever or visable signs. The following day all his bloodwork came back good. So I brought him back for an xray. The vet advised there was nothing he could see that was skeletal or internal that was wrong. He has been eating & using the litter box as normal. A few days after all this he had a stool with a hint of blood? Any idea

IT sounds like you are an excellent pet mommy! Maximus is lucky to have you. IT is possible that Maximus is having some mild gastric upset. The red blood in the stool is usually due to irritation of the colon called colitis. This can happen due to stress or illness. IF you do not see anymore blood and he is eating, drinking and feeling normal I would not be concerned. IF he continues to have blood, diarrhea, stop eating or acts sick I would make sure to call your vet and continue to explore diagnostics to show why he is not feeling well.
