How to get rid of dog fleas when topical treatments aren't working?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 47 lbs

What is the best way to kill fleas on dog besides using Dawn dish soap or flea shampoo? Anytime that I use the topical flea treatments they seem like they don't want to work.

Hi there. There are several oral (by mouth) medications for fleas and ticks in our pets available now which work wonderfully, as well as Seresto collars (which can provide up to 8 months of protection!) My favorite oral medications are Nexgard and Bravecto, and are usually the ones I recommend to my clients first. All of these medications are available through your local veterinary office. I hope this helps and that Lacey Mae gets some relief soon!
