My dog has a fluid-filled bump on his face or neck. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 16 lbs

My dog has a fairly large bump on the side of his face/neck that is filled with fluid, there isnt any bruising or anything but he keeps scratching at it. I just want to know what it is and if I should be worried?

It is difficult to say exactly what it is, but I would suspect it could be an abscess. This can happen with trauma, a foreign body (like a piece of stick or a grass seed) or a bite or scratch from another animal. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for an examination. They may recommend taking a sample with a needle to confirm what it is first. If it is an abscess, it may require sedation to lance it and may need to have a drain placed. They will probably also prescribe oral antibiotics and pain medication.
