My dog has a rapidly growing, movable lump on his chest. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 3 months old | 11 lbs

My chiweenie is 4 yrs old, he has never had tags, lumps or bumps. He's farely active, eats and drinks often. He's of normal weight. He is pet several times a day by me and my kids. 2 days ago we noticed a small lump on his chest to the right of his chest bone, yesterday it got a little bigger, now today it's double the size. It's now the size of my thump, it was the size of my pinky. It's a circle lump that moves around. Why would it suddenly appear? No fevers, no depression.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach. Due to the rapid increase in size, I would get this lump checked out by your veterinarian. They can perform a simple test by inserting a needle into the lump to see what the contents are. This may be a cyst / abscess / tumor (benign or malignant) and it should have more testing done to try and determine what it is and what the right course of treatment should be. Please let me know if you have any other questions / concerns.
