I have my puppy his first set of shots today.. when will he be able to interact with my other animals? Do I have to wait before the vaccine goes into effect?

DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza) vaccines or equivalents are typically given every 3-4 weeks from 6-8 weeks of age until at least 16 weeks of age. A rabies vaccine and some optional vaccines will likely be given during these booster vaccine appointments. Your puppy will not be fully protected by these vaccines until 2-3 weeks after the last vaccine - generally around 18-19 weeks of age. Try to keep your puppy away from other unknown dogs until 2-3 weeks after his last vaccine (aside from housemate dogs or even adult dogs owned by family/friends that you can confirm are up to date on all of their vaccines). Some of these viruses can remain in the soil for years, so your puppy could even be at risk walking around your neighborhood if another dog has previously shed parvovirus, for example. I hope this helps! :-)
