Dog has diarrhea, vomiting, not eating. Is emergency vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 54 lbs

my dog seemed to have a diarrhea and because the vet wasn't available to see him, not until Monday he gave him probiotics and antibiotics. my dog pukes it out every time i tried to give it to him, so for second day now, the pills didn't get into his system yet. he drinks water but didn't wanna eat. is it just plain diarrhea he's got? is he gonna make it till we see his vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry Sam isn't doing well! I think at this point Same needs to be seen before Monday. Since he is now vomiting for 2 days and not eating that is more concerning than just diarrhea. Possible causes for these signs are: viral or bacterial infections, foreign body, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), toxins, intestinal parasites. He may need blood work and X-rays of his belly to help find out the exact reason. I recommend bringing a stool sample with you if you can. I would stop trying to give him the probiotic and the antibiotic since he is vomiting. I hope this helps and I wish Sam the best!
