My dog has engorged ticks. Do I need a vet or will Frontline work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 71 lbs

I found 3 ticks on my dog for the first time today. One of them had already fed and was enlarged. Is it highly important to take him to his vet? Or will the store products like frontline work as well?

Frontline is a good product and should do the trick. If the ticks do not come off or die with the frontline or you are finding new ones after treatment, I would consult with your vet about getting a different product such as nexgard or bravecto.
