Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs
Hi! My Jack Russel, Lucy (turning 5 next week), has been on Sedabarb medication for 3 years now. She takes half a tablet in the morning and evening. However, she hasn't had an epileptic fit since July 2016. Can I wean her off it? She also takes fortekor daily for her little heart and was weaned off from a triamcinolone syrup she had to take daily since October 2016 when her vet removed her tonsils and discovered her heart murmur. So many medical issues, I know

You should not alter, adjust or remove any prescribed medication without discussing this with her vet first. In light of seizure medication, we generally consider her general health, the severity of the original seizure episodes and the risk of complicating other health conditions should she start to have seizure activity again. Weaning off from seizure medication is often attempted and if agreed by your vet it is vital to follow the schedule prescribed as sudden withdrawal of medications can in itself cause seizures; also keep a diary of any behavioral changes, altered thirst or appetite etc as this can help in assessing her response and any mild neurological events she may develop
