How to tell if your pregnant dog is in labor? What are the signs?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | 6 years and 5 months old

Better Day to our online Doc. Lyca ( golden retriever) is on her 62 days of pregnancy and tomorrow will be her due date ( 6/10/2017 breed).I am monitoring her behavior ,she keeps on panning her tail,she doesn't allow to touch her tummy ,keeps on stretching her hind legs and licking her reproductive part .Is she laboring or signs of labor? thanks

    It sounds like she may be getting ready! I would recommend that, in addition to watching her behavior, you start measuring her rectal temperature. Normal temperature for dogs is 100-102, and will often dip down to 98 before stage 1 labor starts. Dogs don't always give birth on their actual due date. We don't know the actual date that the sperm met the egg - it can take a few days for them to get together inside the reproductive tract Here is a great article on birthing puppies: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A
