My red eared slider's eyelids are puffy and pink. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I recently bought a Red eared slider and his eye lids look a little puffy to me. They are slightly pink and he can open them fine. What do you think?

There was no picture attached to this post if you had meant to send one. Swelling around the eyes and the turtle may be an indication of an upper respiratory infection and or related to malnutrition. I'll post a link to some good information on husbandry and feeding and cage set up which may be able to correct those problems. But if the turtle is not eating or you noticed sneezing or blowing bubbles out of its nose or the swelling increases and needs to see a reptile veterinarian. If it is just a mild case from its previous home correcting its environment and nutrition may be enough Good luck. http://www.anapsid.org/reslider.html http://www.anapsid.org/mainchelonians.html
