If there are any emergency vets or pet poison hotlines in your country please contact them. The toxicity of chocolate depends on type of chocolate and amount ingested. Generally darker chocolate has more toxic compounds while milk chocolate may not be as dangerous. A bite of baking chocolate for example May be deadly for a bird but a small bite of a chocolate mufffin may only cause some GI upset. Signs of chocolate toxicity and what to watch for. Contact a vet or poison control immediately to assess if he may have ingested a dangerous dose. Theobromine and caffeine, which are both classified as methylxanthines, can cause hyperactivity, increased heart rate, tremors, possibly seizures, and potentially death in pets if it is ingested at a toxic dose. As a general rule, the darker and more bitter the chocolate, the more potentially toxic it is to your pet.
