Why isn't my dog's UTI going away after multiple antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 61 lbs

This is third kind of antibiotic my gsd is on due to uti that is not going away. I still see no results of her peeing a lot or unable to hold. Did X-ray s and found nothing. What else can be done for her uti issues?

If she is on her third antibiotics and the vet is still seein bacteria then I would talk to your vet about doing a culture and sensitivity. She may have a resistant infection and need special antibiotics. The culture and sensitivity will grow the specific type of bacteria in the urine and then test that particular bug against a list of antibiotics and tell your vet which one will best clear the infection. She will need to be off ALL antibiotics for 3-5 days before urine is collected for the culture. Also know that not all culture and sensitivities come back with a result. Also make sure they have run blood work to see if she is potentially actually drinking more than usual due to a different problem. Increase in drinking could cause her to pee more and not able to hold it. I hope this helps!
