My senior cat is weak, won't eat, and breathing hard. Is it time?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Male | neutered | 11 years and 8 months old | 6 lbs

My 11yr old male cat had been diagnosed with his kidneys sitting on top of his intestines and a small mass in his abdomen. He won't eat or drink anymore. I tried giving him water via a small syringe and he stuck his tongue a out and had rapid breathing like he couldn't get air! Is it time to let him go and be put to sleep? He lost alot of weight and is very weak also.

The signs you have described could be caused by stress of you trying to syringe him water or heart or lung disease. If this continues for longer than 30-60 minutes, I would recommend that Lucky go to an emergency veterinarian. My opinion on whether it is is time or not would need to be based on his complete medical record. It is not a decision that either you or your veterinarian should take lightly or without all of the necessary medical information. I am so sorry to hear that Lucky isn't doing well.
