My dog's pee is light yellow. Is pale urine a health concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 29 days old | 6 lbs

My dogs pee isn't as yellow as I think it should be. Should I be concerned? She seems healthy in every way possible.

The urine in the pictures still looks yellow to me! The degree of "yellowness" in pet (or human!) urine can depend on hydration level. The more water they drink, the more dilute their urine and the lighter in color it will be. Changes in color of urine that would be concerning to me would be pink, red, orange, or green.

Hello and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Calvin's urine may be very yellow as seen in the picture, due to mild to moderate dehydration. Calvin may need to drink a bit more water. Offer fresh water out for him to consume all day as he pleases. If you notice the urine becomes much darker or orange in color, that may signal a more serious health concern and should be brought to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helped!
