What are hard yellow scabs on my dog's nose and head, and how to treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 8 lbs

Hello, I have a shih tzu girl, sage, she has yellow scabs on the bridge of her nose and the area between her eyes and just alittle on the top of her head. They protrude just alittle and they are hard. She also has a small open wound that looks like a scratch. I was wondering what it could be and how I could treat it?

Those scabs look like a staph bacterial skin infection. It is recommended you take her to your vet for an exam and to get some antibiotics. It is hard to treat that area topically because it is so close to her eyes. Most topical medications to treat this condition cannot get in the eyes. She needs oral antibiotics. If this was anywhere else on her body I was give you some ideas on how to treat it at home but not with where her lesions are located. I hope this helps. Best wishes!
