My active cat has bloody diarrhea for 24 hours. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 3 months old | 18 lbs

Cat has had diarrhea for 24 hours mixed with mucus/bloody diarrhea. Still somewhat active/has an appetite. Peeing okay. Got digestive pills for her (homeopet digestive). Seemed to lower the frequency. Still worried :( Can't get in town to vet till middle of week. Parasite issue? Thank you so much.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Deja! There are many causes for diarrhea: food change, parasite, underlying intestinal inflammation, pancreatitis, viruses, metabolic conditions. The blood indicated inflammation in the colon and usually indicated the need for antibiotics. You could try a probiotic in the mean time or call your Vet and see if they can recommend a prescription bland diet to try until you can get her in to see them! I like Purina fortiflora Good luck!
