Check the water temperature and water quality. Low temps can affect appetite and activity. Poor water quality can lead to stress and infection. Bettas thrive at temps between 78 F and 80 F. Ensure adequate filtration or perform frequent partial or complete water changes to maintain water quality. Use aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to tank water to prevent shock. Keeping him covered is not recommended.

He doesn't need to be covered. Place him away from direct sunlight and in a low traffic area of the house. A sturdy shelf or table should be used to prevent the bowl from being shaken. Maintain adequate water quality and a temperature between 78 F and 80 F. Feed a few pellets or flakes daily. You can try feeding freeze dried bloodworms or Tubifex worms to stimulate his appetite. Soaking food in a bit of garlic juice can also stimulate the appetite as well as act as an immune system booster during times of stress.
