My dog is acting off, shaking, pacing, and staring. Is it a seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi my dog is 7 years old and today she has been acting extremely off. This morning she was shaking and pacing, then she was pacing around the couch for 10 minutes straight going around and around, then I saw her behind the couch staring at a table sitting down, and now she has been at the top of the couch staring at a little washing line for 45 minutes. While staring at the washing line her back legs jitter every 30 seconds, and I've heard loud swallowing

Hi there. What you are describing sounds a lot like seizure activity to me. Not all seizures are "tonic clonic" or full blown stretching, jerking, etc like we first think of with the word. Often patients will present with symptoms like this first, or even more subtle neurological signs. I would recommend taking your pup in to your veterinarian for a full physical and potentially blood work to see if they can find a source for the episodes (there can be organ function abnormalities, etc) I hope this helps!
