My dog has a black spot on her vulva after breeding. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed

After I took my 2 year old bitch for her first ever stud she developed a black spot on her vulva. I treated it by wiping cotton wool dipped in vingar, lemon and dettol over it since two days ago but it is still there. She never had these spots before.

It is difficult to tell from the photos but it looks like those spots are scabs. She probably had some trauma from the mating - the male dog's nails may have scratched her? I don't think they look like anything to worry about. If they are still there in about 2 weeks, then you should have her looked at by your vet. I hope this helps. Best wishes!
