My puppy has recurring diarrhea. Could his dog food be the issue?

My belgian malinois puppy has diarrhea. He was on metronadizole for a week and during that time he got better, but it seems to be coming back. I think it might be his food he is on blue wilderness kibble for puppy.

It is certainly possible that various types of food can cause diarrhea. However, I would definitely make sure there are no gastrointestinal parasites causing the diarrhea. These are extremely common as findings in young puppies. I would either obtain a fecal sample and bring it to your vet for analysis, or get a broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal to treat with. As for dietary change, if you plan to try a different puppy food make sure to switch over a few days at the very least. A sudden switch might just make matters worse. I would also consider adding in a canine probiotic, such as Fortiflora, to help right the ship in the GI tract. Hope this helps! Hope Sarge is feeling better soon.

    It could indeed be the food, you should try switching him to a different brand of food but before you do that you should probably continue with the Metronidazole for at least another week as well as either a prescription food such as Royal Canin gastrointestinal or Boiled chicken and rice for 2-5 days. then you can chose a new high quality food (e.g Acana) and switch to the new food gradually, mixing it with the diet mentioned above for 5-7 days.
