Why does my dog have a firm, painless lump on the bridge of his nose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 40 lbs

About a week (after spending the weekend with 4 other dogs) ago a lump appeared on the bridge of my dogs nose. He is a 4 year old hound mix up to date on routine care. It feels relatively firm, doesn't seem to cause pain, has not affected the hair and the skin over it does not appear to be irritated or different in any way. His appetite and energy levels have not been affected. There is no sneezing or apparent nasal irritation or discharge. Gums and oral cavity appear normal.

Poor Ansel! Maybe he hit his nose on something causing some inflammation and swelling. It could also be an infection or possibly a mass. Since it doesn't seem to bother him, you could monitor for a few days and see how it changes. If it persists or grows then have him examined by your vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed. Hope it resolves with no treatment needed!
