When can I use Advantix II for fleas after dog surgery and bathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 7 lbs

I had my dogs neutered and spayed they have fleas and I am hopping to treat them, i just purchased Advantix II. Is it okay to use it on them or should i wait a certain time they had their sugery almost 2 weeks ago. Also should I shower them before I apply it? They said not to bath them in 2 weeks but i dont want to wait to use the treatment. Also a lady at the petstore told me that a friend used dish soap on their dog and it killed the fleas is this possible ?

It is not necessary to wait to treat the fleas; I recommend treating them as soon as possible, and continue treating at least 3 months. You do not need to bathe them prior to treatment, and it is not recommended to bathe them after treatment so that won't be a problem. Dish soap may help encourage adult fleas to jump off, but will not treat the underlying flea problem as it will not address the earlier life stages such as eggs, nor will it do anything for the fleas in the environment. It is important to treat the environment, as well as all pets in the house. Hope this helps!
