My dog has eye discharge and won't open his eye. Is it serious?

Hey guys, still miss ya both. I woke up yesterday scouts eye seemed to be bothering him, I wiped his hair our of his eye and thought he was fine. This morning was worse, he didn't want to open it. I took some water to rinse it and used an eye dropper to put only water in it. Now it's like more eye goop. I didn't see anything in there, he was scratching it so I put a cone on him. Any recommendations?

If he can't open his eye and there is a lot of discharge he needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. This can be an infection or conjunctivitis or a possible corneal ulcer caused by a scratch or a foreign body. Rinsing his eyebwith saline eye watch is less irritating than water
