My kitten has flea eggs. How do I treat them and clean the cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I volunteer at an animal shelter, and this past week the kittens in a variety of areas either have fleas or flea eggs. Cap star is given for fleas, but how to treat flea eggs? Shouldn't cages be treated also?

You can use a flea comb to get out all the flea eggs, and you can also use a flea shampoo during a bath to get them out. Just make sure the flea shampoo is appropriate to use on young kittens. If it isn't, you can bathe them in Dawn dish soap and use the flea comb to get them out. Yes, the cages need to be disinfected as well, and their bedding should be was hot soapy water. I hope this helps :-)
