Puppy's bloody poop after hookworm treatment: Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 19 days old

Hello. I recently had my 11 week old pup treated for hookworms, but now, 3days later, he's not eating and his bowels are still very bloody. I had him checked for parvo and coccidia and they both were negative. He's being treated with anthelban 1ml for 3 days for the next for weeks. Id's it normal for his stools to still be this bloody? I'm concerned he's not gonna make it :'(

Your poor little pup! Sometimes when the flora (normal bacteria) of the gut gets disturbed by something like hook worms, the dog needs an antibiotic to help get the normal flora back into balance. I would call your vet and let them what is going on with the bloody stools and ask if they think he needs an antibiotic. I would continue the dewormer as prescribed to make sure all the parasites are taken care of. Good luck!
