My dog's ear has black wax and she's scratching. Is it an infection?

I have a 4 yr old York is who's been scratching her left ear and shaking her head like something is in her ear. A few moments ago I held her down and shone a flashlight in it. It has a lot of blackish wax in it. What's the best way to remove it? Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 9.4 lbs

It looks like she has an ear infection. You could clean her ear with an ear cleaner for dogs but she should see a vet for medications. She will need an antibiotic and/or an anti-fungal, depending on the type of infection. Your vet can do a cytology and then prescribe the best medications to treat.
