Is my pregnant cat panting, breathing fast, and straining in labor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2.5 lbs

I found a pregnant cat. My boyfriend woke me up because she was starting to pant. She's not doing it now but is breathing fast. She was perfectly fine yesterday . Now about every 7-10 mins she is straining herself. She was an outside cat. Somebody left her here as a kitten. Just took her in when I got her food supply and other nessesities that was needed. Please help !

It sounds like your cat may be going into labor. I would recommend placing her in a clean, quiet area where it will be safe to have her kittens. If she continues to strain and act abnormal for more that 2 hours she may not be able to have the kittens on her own and may need a c-section.
