My senior female dog has brown vaginal discharge. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Japanese Spitz | Female | spayed | 13 years and 6 months old

My parents elderly female japenese spitz has a brown dark discharge near her vaginal area. Shes eating drinking and going to toilet albeit she strained a bit passing bowel movement. She seems in good form otherwise

Vaginal discharge in a female dog that is not spayed can indicate an infection of the bladder or uterus. I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. They can perform a thorough physical exam and may obtain a urine sample to better determine what is going on. If she does have a uterine infection they may recommend surgery as this could be a life-threatening condition.
