My vet says no injectable antihistamine for cats. Is it true?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

The previous vet said there IS an antihistamine by injection. My cat is presently getting a steroid 2x/daily for asthma. But my vet and the one at Ohio State said they don't know of one. So how do I get it? PC: You need a reply button on here so I don't have to repeat the message.

You likely will not be able to purchase an injectable antihistamine for your cat. Diphenhydramine is commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat various allergic reactions. It is possible to get diphenhydramine compounded into a transdermal gel. Ask your vet or search online for a veterinary compounding pharmacy.
