My dog suddenly can't use her back legs and is dragging them.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 14 years and 10 months old | 8 lbs

My dog started acting weird tonight around 8, she was limping and not using her back left leg, as the night progressed she is now not using either of her back legs. Her back left leg seems alittle swollen but not bad, I saw her try to scratch her face she got the paw to her face but couldn't scratch she isn't crying out but won't use them I felt around and she doesn't flinch when she walks she isn't limping it's like she's dragging them she was outside for 15 minutes prior to the start of it

It sounds like your dog is either suffering from a spine injury/condition or from a case of severe hip arthritis, you should take her to the vet as soon as possible as she will need some medical treatment if you want to give her a chance to get better.
