My senior cat is suddenly lethargic and won't eat. How can I help?

i'm extremely worried about my cat - she is 18 years old but very healthy & beautiful, until very recently she has been totally lethargic, depressed, and not eating or grooming herself properly. it's very sudden, and i have no idea what to do. i cannot afford to take her to the vet, although i know she needs it. she is old but i want to do whatever i can to help her, but she has no interest in any food - we have tried everything.
