My cat foamed at the mouth once. Is it rabies or did she choke?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old

My cat started foaming at the mouth and opening her mouth a lot and it was really scary. It has only happened once and she's okay now. I'm worried it's rabies because of the foaming but she has her vaccine and doesn't go outside ever. I think she may have eaten something and had trouble swallowing it. Is that possible, or could she have rabies?

If it happened once and she seems fine than it probably isn't rabies. Rabies is a fatal disease and the signs get worse and not better. If you are concerned, have her examined by your vet to diagnose the problem.
