My 4-month-old puppy has diarrhea and low energy. What should I do?

Hi our 41/2 month old puppy started having diarrhea on Friday night about 4 times. After diarrhea he did not want to have any water either. Next day he ate his food fine, drank water fine but poop double the usual amount and more frequent. It was solid to most part. For the last two days he is eating and drinking fine but late night he has diarrhea symptoms( 1-2 times/ night) his energy levels are about 65-70% of usual. He has had all his shots except rabies and he likes rat everything on the gr

Poor Hugo! The most common cause of persistent diarrhea in a puppy this age is intestinal parasites - so the first thing I would suggest would be to take a fecal sample to your veterinarian for analysis. He/she can look at it under the microscope to check for parasite eggs or other abnormalities, and will prescribe an appropriate medication to treat the problem if something is found. In the meantime, you can try feeding a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice to try and temporarily improve the diarrhea until you find out what the underlying cause is.
